I (Bethany Townsend) obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC-8865) in the state of Idaho. I am also certified through the National Board of Certified Counselors and a member of the American Counseling Association. I have counseled individuals, couples, and families, worked in both clinical and school-based settings, and served primarily in rural areas. My passion is providing quality services to clients no matter their ages, spiritual practices, gender/sexual orientations, ethnicities, economic backgrounds, or clinical concerns. To partner with you on your journey, I use an integrated approach based on the Interpersonal Process Model, while incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other various mindfulness and self-compassion techniques. I have also taken Advanced and Enhanced training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Counseling can be both beneficial and difficult, and it is normal to feel discomfort as we talk about thoughts, emotions, and actions and how they impact your life and relationships. I may ask you to try activities both inside and outside of sessions. Sessions usually occur weekly or bi-monthly for 45-50 minutes. There is no guarantee of results, but we will work together on what is important to you. I do not believe in “fixing” you or making your feelings or problems go away. I believe in both supporting and challenging you while letting you be the expert on your life as you learn to honor your thoughts, sensations, emotions, and experiences. As the client, you have the right to participate in treatment decisions, seek a second opinion, ask to be transferred to another provider, file a complaint without retaliation, and refuse treatment. You can end counseling at any time, but I ask that we talk about your decision before you stop coming.
